With the election behind us it is time to start looking forward towards a Biden presidency. We have started to get an idea of what Biden’s first priorities will be once he gets into office with this report from Washington Post insider Jeff Stein:
This would be a great start to the Biden presidency and something I would applaud his administration for getting done. I was very down on Biden and it took me a long time to convince myself to vote for him, but reports like this should remind us that being the lesser of 2 evils is indeed a good thing.
Getting back into the Paris climate accord can’t happen soon enough and it’s fantastic that it is one of Biden’s main priorities. Leaving that agreement was, in my opinion, one of Trump’s worst moves as President. We must remain in constant contact with other nations on the threat of climate change, this is not an American issue, it is a global issue so we cannot afford to be isolationist.
It’s unclear what health/environmental rules Biden will be reversing so I will withhold taking a strong stance on that but, based on how Trump slashed through environmental protections, I am expecting this to be a good thing and look forward to seeing the details on this.
New York Times just released a good article going into more detail on all the environmental rules Trump slashed through, I would encourage everyone to give it a read.
Trump’s rule of profit over protection was dangerous and it is good to have someone who values the climate and won’t needlessly let coal and oil companies do whatever they want. One story that comes to mind is Trump recently approving a coal plant pollution rollback that will save them millions of dollars but will containment the local bodies of water around them which, I think, is completely unacceptable. We cannot value profit over the planet and clean water/air.
I am also happy to see he will reverse the Muslim ban and reinstate DACA. America is a country built on diversity and immigration and we should not discriminate against any group of people. Every country has dangerous people in it, singling out Muslim countries is just wrong.
