Before the Georgia run off races the Democrats made one thing very clear, win us control of the Senate and we will make sure to get you a round of 2k stimulus checks. That promise is the main reason, in my opinion, why Ossoff and Warnock were both able to win their respective races.
Fast forward to present day, Biden is approaching a week in office and the Democrats haven’t even got a relief bill onto the Senate floor yet. Worst part of it is that it doesn’t seem like they have much urgency to get it through either, besides Bernie Sanders. I am willing to give them a little more time but frankly it is looking flat out embarrassing right now. Millions of Americans are desperate for relief right now and you promised them if you got control you would get them that relief.
Democrats in Washington should have the relief package that includes another round of stimulus checks as their top priority right now. Biden should be in congress actively pushing it through and advocating for it. It is a total joke they haven’t even gotten a vote on it yet. The most frustrating part is I bet this drags on into February, where then all of their attention will turn to the Trump impeachment trail and the checks get pushed even further back, I pray this does not happen.
If checks don’t happen within the next month, Democrats will get destroyed in the next election cycle. You can’t just blatantly lie to people and then expect them to still support and trust you. Democrats promised checks if they won the Senate, it needs to happen as soon as possible. They have all the tools necessary to get it passed, they can easily use budget reconciliation, get 51 votes and get people some relief.
The thing that truly confuses me is that getting these checks through is an easy, slam dunk political move. Have a vote on it, force the Republicans to vote no on it, then go pass it through budget reconciliation. You can then go to voters and say look the Republicans voted against helping struggling Americans and we, the mighty Democrats, were able to come through for you. Would make the 2022 elections extremely difficult for the Republicans.
The Democrats truly are an embarrassing, useless party.
