Well, if this doesn’t convince people Trump’s message of draining the swamp was a complete lie then nothing ever will. In one of his last acts in office, Trump reversed an executive order he did in 2017 that banned staffers from becoming lobbyist for 5 years. This was almost a perfect ending to the Trump presidency because it perfectly showcases how much of a fraud he was.
With this move Trump proved he never really cared about “draining the swamp” and fighting the corruption in DC. Once he stepped foot in the white house he had no problem bathing in the swamp himself. If you need proof just look at this move and who he employed in his administration, it was a who’s who of swamp creatures.
It is just so sad to me, really, because Trump legitimately had a chance to be different and make a real difference in fighting the corruption in DC. This move just helps reinforce the problem of money corrupting every inch of our government and politics. Banning staffers was becoming lobbyist for 5 years was a legitimately good move and if Trump pushed through more orders like it I would have zero issue praising him on it despite my other problems with him but a las he choose the road of being a total fraud. He would rather help his rich buddies and make sure they will be ok. Pathetic.
Money in politics is almost an impossible issue to fight against because the people in government will never vote against something that they benefit from so much. That’s why we needed a Trump-like figure, an outsider with enough name recognition to get elected that won’t get corrupted and push for legitimate campaign and finance reform, he could have made such a difference. The whole Trump presidency was nothing but a huge missed opportunity that left our country with a complete mess. Good riddance Donald, have fun with your fellow swamp friends.
