In Trump’s last moments in office, it seems he wants to leave as big of a mess as possible for Biden to clean up in Iran. Despite getting other peace deals done in the Middle East, Trump has been a total failure regarding our relations with Iran. Backing out of the Iran nuclear deal, a deal Biden helped get done during the Obama years, was a huge mistake and it seems he is pushing tensions further.
Already heavily sanctioning the country, the Trump administration decided to ramp those sanctions up even more, causing great harm to the Iranian economy. It really is a sad situation because the people this hurts the most are the innocent citizens of Iran. We are sanctioning things like medicine during a global pandemic.
Amid the escalation of tensions between the 2 nations, Iran introduced 2 new missiles back in August, which they named after leaders killed in a US lead airstrike. This is why we desperately need to get back into the Iran deal asap, Biden has said it will be one of his top priorities and I hope he means it.
However, with these recent moves it seems Trump wants to fracture the relation to a point where Biden is unable to get back into the deal, or at the very least has a hard time doing so. The New York Times reported Trump wanted to launch an attack on Iran’s main nuclear sites but his team around him talked him out of it. This is completely unacceptable behavior from President Trump, having our country on the brink of another war just to make life difficult for the next administration. Actions like this prove to me Donald Trump does not truly care about the country, he never did.
For all the faults Biden has, and it is quite a long list, he would never make dangerous decisions just cause his ego got hurt. Actions like the ones dealing with Iran and not accepting the election results are why I can so easily look past the good things Trump did as president. His divisive language and actions have made our political climate more hostile than ever.
